How To Make Yak Chew Puffs

Everything you’ll need to turn yak chews into puffs in the microwave

First, get your materials together:

  • Yak cheese dog chew
  • Bowl of room temperature water
  • Microwave-safe plate
  • Microwave

Instructions

Treat time is close! Follow these simple steps to make a delicious yak cheese treat for your dog:

  1. Soak the chew: Place the last few inches of the yak cheese dog chew into the bowl of water and let it sit for five minutes. This helps soften the chew and prepare it to puff in the microwave. We usually use the last 3” of our dogs’ chews, but any size will work!
  2. Microwave: Remove the chew from the water and place it on the microwave-safe plate. Microwave it for 45-60 seconds, or until puffing stops completely. The yak cheese chew will expand quite a bit, and can puff up to three times its size.
  3. Let cool: Allow the cheese puff to cool for a few minutes until it is completely cool to the touch.
  4. Serve it to your dog!

Expert Tips

Safety Precautions For Your Cheese Puff

Making yak cheese puffs with a microwave is fun and easy, but keep safety in mind:

  • Always supervise your dog when giving them treats, especially homemade ones.
  • Let the cheese puff cool completely before giving it to your dog to avoid burns. Don’t let their begging face talk you out of this!
  • Observe the puff while microwaving, and adjust your time as needed to prevent overheating.
  • The yak cheese puff’s crispy texture means that there will be crumbs - at least until your dog gobbles them up! Make sure your dog eats over an easily cleaned surface that can handle crumbs.

Store Your Yak Cheese Puffs

If you have any leftover yak cheese puffs, put them in an airtight container and store them in the fridge. The tasty treats will last several days with refrigeration, but check for any signs of spoilage before giving them to your dog.
