Hey Mighty Paw Fam, Barbara here to talk to you about when to use our dog leash tabs as opposed to our dual handle dog leashes!
But before I dive into the differences, let me briefly explain what these types of dog leashes are, just for anyone who may not be familiar with them.
A dog leash tab is a r e a l l y short leash. As a matter of fact, it's just a handle with a clip on it that attaches to your dog's collar. The entire tool measures just 10" (25 cm) from one end to the other.
As the name suggests, a dual handle dog leash is a leash with two handles, one on each end of the leash. Our dual handle dog leashes are between 4-6' long.
Both make it easy to quickly and comfortably (!) regain control over your dog as needed thanks to their soft handles, but each works better in a specific situation!

Let's start with our shortest leash - the leash tab!
It's best for large and extra large adult dogs because it's difficult to reach on a shorter dog, at least if you're an average size adult.
Our leash tabs offer ultimate control in tight, narrow spaces because they make it very easy to keep your dog right next to you.
For example, in busy urban environments like a:
- Home improvement store
- An elevator and
- Your vet's office.
They're also a great tool to quickly redirect your pup at home!
For example, if you're teaching your counter-surfing pup NOT to put their paws on the counter, clip the leash tab to their collar and let them walk around your home with it. Then redirect them when you catch them putting their paws up where they don't belong.
No worries, it's not heavy at all, and it's so much easier to pull them away on the leash tab as opposed to their collar!
It's also a great tool to control your excited pup when the door bell rings - your guests and delivery people will definitely thank you!
Good to know: Technically speaking, you can achieve the same results with our dual handle leashes, but since they're much longer and therefore bulkier, it's easier to stick to leash tabs when you want a light, small solution to control your pup.

Dual Handle Dog Leash
OK, moving on to our dual handle dog leashes!
They're just a tad further away from your dog's head than the leash tabs.
Since they're 4-6' long, they're a great solution to control your dog in busy, narrow areas outside.
For example, on hiking trails or walking paths with oncoming:
- Doggie or people traffic
- Bikes
- Skateboards
- Joggers
- Small critters or
- Anything else that might upset your pup.

The dog leash tabs work best for medium - extra large adult dogs in a busy urban environment or at home.
For example, when you're taking your pup along to a home improvement store, teaching them to keep their paws off your kitchen counters or off of guests who walk through your front door.
The dual handle dog leashes are as effective as the leash tabs but work best in an outside area where you don't mind handling a 4-6' leash.
I'd like to emphasize the fact that both leash tabs and dual handle dog leashes help you do this COMFORTABLY thanks to the soft material of their handles.
This detail really makes a huge difference as opposed to pulling back on stiff nylon.. that's just asking for an ouch rope burn moment!
